Mondays offer a clean slate and a fresh start. I do relish this. But… Bleugh… Anyone else just dread Mondays? I guess after two whole days of exploring the city with friends, or even relaxing at home drinking wine and cooking feasts in the kitchen, Mondays seem... well, dull. That anxiety of the full week of work or school can really get you down.
I have put together a quick list of how I kick those pesky Monday blues to the curb!
1. Wake up 5 minutes earlier on Monday mornings
Waking up late will only make the day worse. So set an alarm or set five alarms! I usually place my phone (which acts as my alarm) on charge as far away from my bedside table as possible so that I have to get up when it goes off on the mornings. This avoids falling into that never-ending snooze cycle!
2. Start preparing for Monday on Friday
Start getting ready for your dreaded Monday
on the Friday before. There are a few things you can do on the
Friday before, to prepare for Monday. Make sure your work space is clean. Organise your emails into their respective folders. Write a to-do list for Monday (I love the to-do list pads you an get from Typo.) Try to get as much work done as
possible so you can enjoy your weekend.
3. Start preparing for Monday on Sunday
Spend some time on Sunday preparing for Monday. I
like to check the weather for Monday and plan my outfit in advance. This way I
don’t have to wake up on Monday and start the day on a bad note when I realize
that that killer Monday outfit I feel like wearing is in the laundry hamper and end up wearing something that I feel frumpy in. I also like to wash my hair the night before, so styling my hair is a lot quicker on Monday morning. Packing your bag the night before makes Monday morning a breeze.
4. Pack the perfect lunch
I have a super cute lunch tote bag from Woolworths that is bright pink. It never ceases to cheer me up, especially when there are some of my favourite treats inside. My ideal lunch is a handful of almonds, some strawberries, a salad chicken wrap or left overs from Sunday lunch. Whether you pack your lunch the night before or the
morning of, make sure you pack an awesome lunch. I don't know about you, but opening a perfect home-made
lunch always brightens my day.
5. Hit the ground running
I
think the best way to make sure Monday is quickly over is to work
as hard as you can. Tackle that to-do list! It is guaranteed to make the day go faster and make you feel good about your accomplishments.
6. Plan something fun
Plan something fun for the evening whether it is
coffee with a friend, a session of yoga or a date night. Make sure you have
something to look forward to. I love cooking so I like to plan a special dinner with a new recipe I haven't tried before. Plus every Monday night my boyfriend and I have a movie night.
What are your tips to beat those Monday blues?
